February 2023 Newsletter - Valkyries, Album Launch Party in 2 weeks time!

Greetings everyone,

It now feels a bit late to say “Happy New Year'“, but all of us at Regents Opera nonetheless hope your 2023 is starting out well.

I write this from a bus on the way home from the Hamburg Staatsoper, where I’ve just been to see Elektra and Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk on two consecutive nights. Happy memories from Orchestral Study Days past, and looking forward to revisiting Elektra this summer.

“Wagner by Arrangement” Album Launch Party, 24th February

Many of you will be aware that in 2022, as an adjunct project to the Regents Opera Ring Cycle, we recorded an album with our singers and orchestra, in the Freemasons’ Hall, which received a 4* review from Opera Now. This album is now out, and you can stream it from your favourite streaming service, or buy an actual CD of it from Toccata Classics by clicking here.

Our launch party will be at Christ Church, Highbury from 6.30pm on Friday 24th February from 6.30-8.30pm, and will feature some music from the album, some music (notably some Brahms chamber music) not from the album, and a short film about the making of the album by Harold Raitt. Tickets £20, which includes a glass of wine/fizz on arrival, and for one day only, we’ll be selling copies of the CD for £10.

Die Walküre - 3 months to go

Excitement builds for our next instalment of the Ring Cycle at the Freemasons’ Hall right in the heart of Covent Garden; singers asking for coachings, designers wanting to buy things…!

Meanwhile, our thanks as ever to our sponsors, Big Yellow in Camberley. Thank you for storing all our stuff!
