A précis to Götterdämmerung by David Trippett

On 17th November, at 4.15pm before the final show, there will be a short talk:  A précis to Götterdämmerung by David Trippett, author of Wagner’s Melodies, to finish at 4.45.  The talk will be free to anyone with a ticket for the performance on the 17th.

David Trippett

Trippett 2_0David Trippett is Lecturer in Music at Bristol University. He taught for several years at Cambridge University, and as a visiting lecturer at King’s College, London.

His primary research focuses on nineteenth-century intellectual history, Richard Wagner, and the intersection of German aesthetic thinking with the growth of the natural sciences. In 2009 his research received the Alfred Einstein Award of the American Musicological Society, in 2012, the Donald Tovey Memorial Prize of the University of Oxford, and in 2013, an ASCAP Deems Taylor Award.

His publications include editions and translations, as well as research and review articles. Following an edited translation of Carl Stumpf’s The Origins of Music (2012), his first monograph, Wagner’s Melodies, appeared in May 2013, and he is currently embarking on a new research project on music and materialism.
